DFR Minister Safeen Dizayee in Baghdad

On the 15 September 2019 Head of the Department of Foreign Relations (DFR), Minister Safeen Dizayee, traveled to Baghdad in order to further strengthen the relation with Iraqi partners. During his visit, the KRI Minister met with Iraqi President Barham Salih, Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Alhakim and second Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Bashir al-Haddad.

“I had a productive meeting with President Barham Salih in Baghdad, discussing recent developments in Iraq and further improvement of ties between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.” noted Minister Dizayee. As both, the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, share a set of mutual interests, it is one of the KRG’s priorities to build a constructive and stable partnership with Iraq. The Head of the DFR also had the chance to meet with Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Alkhim. The bilateral exchange at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry was very fruitful. In addition, Minister Safeen Dizayee also met with second Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Bashir al-Haddad.

The KRG and the Kurdistani MPs in Baghdad have been meeting repeatedly and agreed stay in regular contact to enhance coordination and the flow of information. In light of this accord, Minister Dizayee discussed the current events with Kurdistani MPs and blocks in the Iraqi Council of Representatives in Iraq. During his stay in Baghdad, Head of the DFR, Safeen Dizayee, also followed the invitation of US Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller. The Ambassador was delighted of the Minister’s visit to Baghdad and supports the positive developments between the KRG and Iraqi government.
