Minister Dizayee meets USCIRF Vice-Chair

Minister Safeen Dizayee, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) met with Ms. Nadine Menza, the Vice Chairwoman of the U.S. Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) and her accompanying delegation.

At the meeting, Minister Dizayee and Ms. Menza exchanged views on conditions of different ethnic and religious communities in the Kurdistan Region, in Iraq and the wider region, and said that the Kurdistan Region is a successful example of peaceful coexistence, good security, stability and support for religious freedom. The KRG is firmly committed to promote these principles.

Both sides underlined the importance of implementing the agreement on normalising Sinjar and the need for more support to all communities in the region.

Ms. Menza gave a brief overview on the USCIRF’s works and activities in the Kurdistan Region and in Iraq. She also commended the KRG for preserving and protecting its multi-ethnic and multi-religious identity, in addition to welcoming a large number of refugees and IDPs.
