President Barzani meets with Turkish Defense Minister

President Nechirvan Barzani held a meeting with Türkiye’s Defense Minister Mr. Yaşar Güler and Chief of General Staff Gen. Metin Gürak on February 7. The meeting, which was attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, focused on Türkiye’s relations and joint cooperation with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. They also discussed the security situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and exchanged views about the ongoing war and tensions in the Middle East and its repercussions.

The two sides emphasized the significance of Türkiye’s collaboration with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in maintaining peace, stability, and border security in the region. They agreed on the necessity of comprehensive efforts to prevent any escalation of the Middle East conflict and its consequences.

Türkiye’s commitment to enhancing relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, based on shared interests and good neighborliness, was highlighted, as well as the latest development in the fight against terrorism and common threats. The two sides also addressed the threat from ISIS in the region and other issues of mutual concern.

The Turkish minister met with Prime Minister Barzani on the same day.
