President Nechirvan Barzani held a meeting with Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, the President of Iraq, in Baghdad in the afternoon of April 7.
During their discussion, the two Presidents focused on the overall situation in the country, the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad, the recent agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi Federal Government regarding the salaries of Kurdistan Region public employees, and the efforts to address all issues between Erbil and Baghdad in accordance with the Constitution.
Both leaders emphasized the significance of maintaining an ongoing dialogue to resolve these matters and implement the State Administration Coalition agreement, which led to the formation of the current Federal Government. They also highlighted the importance of safeguarding the rights and financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region and its employees, while steering clear of political obstacles. Additionally, they underscored the necessity of cooperation and coordination among political parties to uphold peace and stability in the country.
President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized that the understanding and agreement reached between Erbil and Baghdad on the salary issue will positively impact the development of relations between the two sides. In this regard, he expressed his gratitude for the role and efforts of the Iraqi President in resolving these issues.
President Rashid, on his part, stressed the importance of supporting the implementation of the Federal Government’s agenda and acknowledged the role of the Kurdistan Region President in resolving the salary issue. He also commended President Nechirvan Barzani’s continuous efforts to bridge the gap between the parties and find solutions.
