The Kurdistan Region looks back on a long and complex history. The people of the region have faced many conflicts over the centuries. The striving for autonomy for the Kurdish people shaped the history of the region.
Since the year 2017 the team of the Austrian Representation of the Kurdistan Region has dedicated the month of March to Kurdish history. It’s no coincidence why we’ve selected March.
March marks the anniversary of many of the most important events in Kurdish history. The Kurdish New Year (Newroz) is also celebrated in March.
Throughout the month we cover the most important episodes of Kurdish history, introduce outstanding personalities and give an insight into the culture and language of the Kurdistan region.
In 2022 we’ve put the focus on the Kurdish language family.
